Hi

Just wondering if anyone has had a flaky rash whilst on Leflunomide or Enbrel? A slight rash just on my arms started when I was about to come off Leflunomide and go on to Enbrel, in June. It cleared with creams from my GP before starting Enbrel, but after two Enbrel injections in July came back all over my body. It is now improving, thankfully. My GP thought this was all due to thrush, but referred me to a dermatologist as it wouldn't clear up. I saw the dermatologist earlier this week, and she is fairly convinced this isn't thrush, but is wanting to do a biopsy - she wouldn't give me any clue as to what she thinks it is.

Sorry but I've also posted about this in discussions about RA on the same topic.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had a rash like this?

Thanks, Mylo x

Sorry you have a rash.

I had a rash when i went on Humira but it wasn't flaky. It lasted for 18+ weeks in total and i also had a biopsy at the dermatologist which came back as showing to be a drug reaction.

I'm now on enbrel and doing okay.

Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Shirley

Thanks for your reply. My rash makes me look like a pink Dalmatian dog! I'm just covered in blotches. What did you use to get rid of your rash? I've been given Epiderm, and it's the most wonderful moisturiser. Did the rash start soon after going on Humira? 18+ weeks was a long time to have the rash - poor you.

I'm a bit puzzled because my joints aren't too bad, and I've had no treatment now since the end of July, just ibuprofen at bedtime. I wonder if it's all to do with yeast, and have cut yeast out of my diet for the moment to see what happens.

Sorry for the questions, but would be interested to know how things were for you.

Hi Mylo

I started on Humira on Jan 31st and the rash began around March 22nd but i had only had 4 injections as i had 2 then got a chest infection and missed 2 and then had another 2. I remember noticing the rash around that time as i had seen a few spots on my chest and then on the 24th i went to my daughters as it was granddaughters 6th birthday. I was kissing and cuddling my grandson who was only 6 weeks old at the time and then 2 days later my husband noticed my back was covered in spots. They were red/purple in colour and flat and then after a few days turned pusy in the middle but nothing come out. They wern't itchy.

I went to the doctors and got antibiotics and a body wash as he said i had vasculitis and folicalitis. The rash continued and then had biopsy, still conitinued and then had elocan cream. Nothing really seemed to help, it just took it's time to get out of my system. I looked like a teenager as they spread to my face and i had random ones on my arms and legs!

I then waited until August 1st to start Enbrel which has been okay so far.

I don't know about the yeast thing though and i don't mind you asking questions as i'm happy to help if i can.

Hi Shirley

My rash is more blotchy than spots, some of them as big as 2" in diameter. I think some were infected but that cleared up with Fucibet cream. The blotches are like very dry skin, flaky/scaly. So it sounds as though it might be a bit different to yours.

How did you cope with your arthritis symptoms while not having the Humira? My joints aren't too bad at the moment.

Glad you're doing well on Enbrel!
